Deputy Commissioner – Executive Director, Corporate Services

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up of volunteers and a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities. Major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, road accident rescue, vertical rescue, and bush search and rescue.

The Deputy Commissioner - Executive Director, Corporate Services leads and manages multi-disciplinary teams to develop and deliver strategy and manage best practice corporate functions that are key to NSW SES achieving its mission. The role leads teams in the areas of Finance, People and Development, ICT, Governance and Policy, Media and Enterprise PMO.

This role is accountable for attracting, developing and retaining a strong and growing volunteer base, supported by a diverse and agile staff workforce prepared and capable of responding to emerging community needs.

The Deputy Commissioner Corporate Services is responsible for managing the corporate services workforce to deliver service wide programs. It also exercises broad external influence, and leveraging relationships, to drive strategy and optimise the delivery of operational services.

High quality candidates will have:

  • Extensive executive-level leadership experience and a proven record for driving reform and delivering results.

  • Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary portfolio of corporate functions.

  • Thorough knowledge of AIIMS principles and processes, and/or willingness to obtain competence within 
    12 months.

The successful candidate must demonstrate highly advanced capabilities in delivering results, managing and developing people, communicating effectively, displaying resilience and courage and acting with integrity; and advanced capability in working collaboratively, managing reform and change, planning, influencing and negotiating, problem solving, and optimising business outcomes.
