About the opportunity

Lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams to prepare for and respond to emergencies. The development of mature capability plans on which the Zone can achieve targeted and evidence based growth is a key purpose of the role. Will act as Operations Commander or be appointed as an Incident Controller.

About the NSW SES

The NSW SES serves the community of NSW as the lead agency for floods, storms and tsunami as specified by the State Emergency Act 1989 and is recognised as the more versatile and widely used emergency service organisation in NSW. The NSW SES volunteers are highly-skilled, experienced and well-trained in the wide variety of roles they perform. Each Unit is as unique and varied as the community they serve due to the vast mix of risks faced and roles required in the diverse locations and communities across the state.

In addition to flood, storm and tsunami, NSW SES provide specialist capabilities including general land rescue, vertical rescue, road crash rescue, and alpine and remote area search and rescue. The NSW SES frequently assists other emergency services in a variety of roles, such as supporting NSW Police in searches for evidence and missing persons and the Ambulance Service of NSW as Community First Responders in rural locations.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have experience in providing leadership across diverse stakeholder groups across various geographic locations;
  • Have a passion for emergency management and incident management;
  • Have a strong understanding of the volunteer ethos and how to work with volunteers to support communities;
  • Be willing to travel, work on-call and out-of-hours as required.
