In July 2015, the NSW Government announced the formation of DPI Water, as a Division within the Department of Industry, Primary Industries. This announcement signalled a new direction and transformation for water management in NSW. The formation of DPI Water followed various reviews of the former Office of Water’s functions and how the business can be better structured to manage water in NSW.

The objectives of the DPI Water Division are to create a contemporary government water agency focused on:

  • Planning and Policy
  • Regulation
  • Information and Insights; and
  • Program and Performance

 

As a Senior Water Planner with NSW DPI Water, you will coordinate a range of complex analytic and research activities and projects to provide sound and reliable input to the delivery of the NSW Government’s water management planning process, consistent with the State’s and Commonwealth’s water reform agenda and relevant legislation.

Your day to day activities will be varied and include providing informed advice and technical services to support water management arrangements, analysing priority issues, initiating research and consultation activities, preparing recommendations to inform water management options, policies and plans.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for community consultation and communication to support engagement. You will conduct activities to establish and foster productive information networks and prepare a range of communications materials and consultation activities to support the water planning and management process.

You will also be required to employ your strong written and oral communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience to lead and manage projects to address policy or planning issues and to respond to Ministerial, Cabinet or Departmental requests

To be successful in this position it is essential that you demonstrate your extensive experience in water related areas such as water planning, natural resource management, environmental science, aquatic ecology, geomorphology, civil/environmental engineering and hydrology. You will also have a strong understanding of the State and Commonwealth Government’s water reform agendas, and legislative and policy requirements regarding water planning.
