How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…
Reporting directly to the Team Leader City Planning, you will be responsible for providing high quality strategic planning, city strategy and policy development and you will lead and contribute to design-led structure plans, producing aspirational and deliverable visions to achieve holistic and well-designed outcomes across the municipality.
You will provide specialist planning and design expertise to the teams working across the City of Melbourne, particularly in areas of growth and renewal including Fishermans Bend and Arden Macaulay.
This position requires strategic and creative thinking and an ability to negotiate and collaborate with partners and stakeholders to inform strategies, masterplans, structure plans, planning policy and projects that shape the city.
As a senior member of the team and urban strategy branch, you will take a lead role in ensuring the branch delivers high quality places and outcomes for people, working closely across City of Melbourne and with key external agencies.
We are ideally seeking an enthusiastic team player with strong and effective communication and influencing skills to achieve successful outcomes for our stakeholders.
You can bring… (Selection criteria)
•Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
•A tertiary qualification and experience in the area of strategic urban planning or a closely related field and extensive practice or public agency experience.
•Knowledge of the theory of cities, including interaction of the natural and built environment, land use, infrastructure and people.
•Able to research and synthesise community needs, urban trends and history of place (including indigenous cultural history) in their consideration of future opportunity.
•Proven skills and experience in policy and strategy development, comprehensive understanding of planning principles and the range of issues impacting upon capital city planning and demonstrated planning practice to ensure design visions and plans translate into policy and deliver great outcomes for the City and people.
•Strong and demonstrated experience in urban renewal, particularly how to enable high quality outcomes and achieve design excellence in areas undergoing change.
•Demonstrated ability to scope and conduct research to develop imaginative, contextually responsive and deliverable strategies.
•Demonstrated exceptional oral, written and visual communication skills including appropriate computer literacy in architectural and design software.
Desirable
•Strong understanding of the public and private partnership approach in the renewal context and the policy levers to enable sustainable renewal across large precincts in multiple ownerships.
•Knowledge of City of Melbourne corporate policies and procedures.
•Experience of urban renewal and the ability to contextualise and share knowledge to the Victorian context.
•Other specific technical skills and expertise relevant to strategic planning and urban design practice within the context of the City of Melbourne, including computer or other skills supporting the communication of design ideas and strategies.
•Understanding of development economics.
