How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…
As the Senior Urban Forester, you will collaborate closely with expert Arborists and Ecologists in the team to deliver strategic projects and programs. A key focus of the role is leading work to predict and monitor tree canopy growth and other metrics, to ensure progress towards the goals of the Urban Forest Strategy. You will encourage innovation based on emerging research and approaches to climate adaptation.
You will be responsible for managing a diverse range of high profile Urban Forest Strategy projects on time, to budget and within the scope and quality as described by the Team Leader Urban Forest and Ecology, including strategic oversight of the Urban Forest Fund and development of plans and policies. Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills will enable you to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
An essential requirement of this role will be the ability to oversee GIS based research and evaluation for the Urban Forest Strategy. The Senior Urban Forester will provide high level internal and external advocacy for urban forestry in addition to developing and leading community and stakeholder engagement programs and initiatives.
The Senior Urban Forester is responsible for one direct report within the team.

•Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
•An approved tertiary or post graduate qualification in Forestry, Ecosystem Services, Spatial Data Analysis or equivalent.
•Ability to utilise software and systems such as Adobe products and ArcGIS, to understand and interpret aerial and satellite imagery, spatial mapping and thermal imaging.
•Relevant professional experience in the area of natural resource management/urban forestry, spatial data analysis or similar.
•High level of project management skills and demonstrated experience in managing projects within timelines and budgets.
•Leadership capability including leading by example and consistently working towards a constructive culture.
•Proven ability to establish and maintain networks and stakeholder relationships.
