How this position makes the difference to City of Melbourne…
City of Melbourne (CoM) recently implemented a centre-led category management approach to Procurement that strategically and actively promotes procurement in line with leading best practices. We are undertaking the next phase in our transformation journey and are excited to offer three new opportunities that will continue to embed this approach and shape the future of how CoM undertakes procurement.
The Procurement Category Manager manages a diverse portfolio of categories for the City Design and Projects Directorate. The role is responsible for providing strategic commercial direction on a variety of capital projects with a focus to establish and embed industry leading strategies, policies, processes, disciplines and culture.
As a Procurement Category Manager you will develop category plans, value chain analysis and procurement strategies whilst introducing innovation and technology to ensure that effective governance, value for money and sustainability outcomes are realised.
You can bring… (Selection criteria)
• A relevant tertiary qualification to degree level in procurement, supply chain, business, commerce or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience in strategic contract management, procurement, tendering, category management and an understanding of current legislations and standards.
• Proven experience in effectively managing complex issues within a highly political and complex environment.
• Proven experience in achieving substantial cost reductions through effective management of contracts and delivering continuous improvement.
• Proven experience in driving sustainability (social, environmental and economic) outcomes.
• Strong influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with demonstrated experience in achieving effective business outcomes.
• Proven experience in working collaboratively with stakeholders in negotiating value for money that deliver to project timelines, quality and cost within budget.
• High level communication skills (verbal/communication) with the ability to use strong discretion and judgment in a complex business and political environment.
• High level analytical and lateral thinking skills with the ability to operate autonomously and take initiative.
• High level experience in developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders at all levels and a sound understanding of stakeholder needs.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a high pressure and changing environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
Applicants with category knowledge in building, architecture, planning, landscape, urban design, engineering and other minor works and construction related fields would be highly desirable but not essential.
