International and Civic Services branch creates strategies, programs and initiatives that derive maximum economic and social benefits for the city from the delivery of opportunities that contribute to Melbourne’s international reputation as a business and investment destination. In addition, International and Civic Services manage the Melbourne Town Hall as a venue of metropolitan wide, state and national significance for civic, diplomatic, cultural, community and commercial events which delivers a financial return to Council.
The Manager International and Civic Services drives leadership and direction across the team to create strategies, programs and initiatives that derive maximum economic and social benefits for the city. This is achieved through strong partnerships internationally and domestically to drive business development investment and trade facilitation.
At a local level, the position has oversight for civic, diplomatic, cultural, community and commercial events which deliver a financial return to Council. The position is expected to drive Melbourne’s global and civic agendas across all tiers of government and develop strategic partnerships with national and international partners.
The position requires a strategic thinker with proven leadership in achieving outcomes within a complex and political business environment with the ability to build and maintain strong and effective relationships borne of trust and credibility.
Applicants should have:
- Relevant Tertiary Degree in business or international relations or extensive relevant industry experience in the areas of trade investment, international relations or business programs and public diplomacy.
- Demonstrated business understanding of Council’s priority city markets in China, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, , Malaysia, India) and proven experience in providing authoritative and effective advice and strategies to drive international business development.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing complex multi-faceted strategies and programs within rigorous policy, risk and governance frameworks which deliver revenue growth.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and implement strategic plans and programs with high level stakeholder and organisational buy-in.
- Proven ability to develop and implement business programs and activities that are aligned and deliver on the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Proven ability to build and sustain stakeholder partnerships that maximise revenue returns for commercial agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and maintain business plans, programs, policies and associated resources, communications, governance, budgetary and financial management requirements.
- Significant experience in leading change within a complex, political and high profile organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with strong coaching skills to develop team capabilities, and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
