     Commissioner, NSW Rural Fire Service

The 72,000 trained and qualified volunteers of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) are passionate about the safety of their communities.  One of the State of New South Wales’ greatest assets, they are the heart of the RFS and are supported by a world class staff team of 900 people, many of whom are also volunteers.  Together they respond to over 30,000 incidents a year - fires, accidents and other incidents.  The RFS also plays a major emergency prevention role in local communities.

After 12 years of inspirational leadership, Shane Fitzsimmons, AFSM, the Commissioner of the NSW RFS, has retired from the Service.  We are looking for an exceptional leader to take over from Shane to continue to build and grow the Rural Fire Service.  These are big shoes to fill in an amazing organisation where a leader will have a profound impact.

Your track record of leadership at a senior level in an emergency service with strong ties to local communities will speak for itself.  You will be highly qualified (with a minimum of a degree in a relevant discipline) and be an executive with strong influencing and stakeholder management skills who has led complex organisations in high risk environments.  Fundamental to your success will be the ability to connect with and develop a volunteer workforce committed to providing critical services to the community.

If you are looking for a challenging leadership role where you can make a real difference, this is for you.
