WHS Cluster Manager

From 4 April 2018, over 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 nations and territories will converge on the Gold Coast for the largest multi-sport event in Australia this decade.

Our workforce of approximately 700 staff will grow to 1500 by Games times, with the peak of recruitment taking place mid to late 2017.
The opportunity
To support the organisation in delivering GC2018 in a safe manner, that will protect all workforce and constituent groups, and meet all applicable WHS legislative requirements. You will support the development and implementation of the WHS management system (WHSMS) within GOLDOC to address regulatory requirements and meet best practice, and provide WHS guidance to GOLDOC functional areas (FAs). 
The role
To develop and implement effective policies, procedures, systems and services to provide and maintain the highest level of safety awareness, occupational health and injury prevention across all of GOLDOC's operations and functions. You will develop and deliver a range of assurance activities designed to support coordination, planning and monitoring of WHS. Additionally you will be: 

  • Delivering general advice, inspections, investigations and liaison with statutory authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the implementation of the WHSMS with measures to educate, support, monitor, audit and review effectiveness throughout all phases of GOLDOC operations.
  • Advising and assisting on the approaches in relation to venue delivery and operational WHS matters.
  • Representing GC2018 with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities whilst maintaining communication and engagement channels. 
  • Developing and implementing a GOLDOC contractor WHS compliance handbook with related procedures.
  • Reviewing and monitoring the WHS compliance of contractors engaged by GOLDOC.

About you
The successful candidate will have experience in providing operational and strategic WHS advice. You will have an understanding of contemporary and emerging WHS and risk management issues. Additionally, you will have: 
  • A strong attention to detail when completing work-related tasks, addressing situations, or working through challenges.
  • Experience and expertise in assisting an organisations evolution through a number of different phases of WHS implementation.
  • Excellence in interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office Suite of products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint at an Advanced level.
  • Ability to make well informed, effective, and timely decisions.
