Manager, Research Office


The position is responsible for leading and managing the operational functions of the Research Office and providing coordinated and strategic support to the research and research training entities of the Institute; including the Graduate School, the Centre for Collaborative First Nations' Research (CCFNR) and the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL).

Working closely with the Deputy CEO, Higher Education and Research, the position will develop and implement systems and proceses that promote high quality research management, monitoring and reporting - both for internal development and external reporting purposes. 

The role interacts directly with centre managers, academics, policy and service provision staff, external stakeholders in government and research partner organisation representatives.  The position will provide executive support to the Institute Research Committee and will be the point of contact for the Institute's membership to the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS).

Essential selection criteria

  1. Possess a minimum degree qualification and extensive relevant experience and expertise in management and administration, preferably within a higher education or research institution
  2. Possess advanced analytical and ICT skills in order to develop and maintain research data systems, extract and create data from numerous sources and support the research and research training reporting requirements of the Institute
  3. Demonstrated experience in providing executive support to committees; including scheduling and communicating meeting dates, preparing agendas, taking minutes, recording and following up actions and drafting correspondence
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within the social, cultural and political environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations
  5. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communications skills, including advanced written and oral capabilities.
  6. Proven success as an organised, multi-skilled and analytical professional who works systematically and effectively to support the strategic objectives of the organisation.
  7. Possess a sound knowledge of current issues and directions in research management, research training and compliance reporting
  8. Possess a Current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one.
  9. Possess a current NT OCHRE Card or the ability to obtain one.
  10. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
