Manager, Alternative Dispute Resolution 

Conciliation conferences provide an alternative means of dispute resolution in Family Division proceedings in the Children's Court. Concilation conferences are conducted to identify the issues in dispute, to consider alternatives and to try and reach a facilitated agreement which will operate in the best interests of the children. 

The Manager, Alternative Dispute Resolution oversees the performance of a multi-disciplinary team of conference convenors and intake officers and is responsibile for maintaining strong and consistent standards to underpin conciliation conferences in accordance with legilsation and guidelines. The role must also develop, manage and monitor program evaluation activies and continuous improvement mechanisms to ensure performance standards are upheld and optimised. In addition to maintaining program operations, the role will explore, propose and create strategies for the broader application of conciliation and other contemporary alternateive dispute resolution practices across the Children's Court. 

The Children's Court plays a unique and specialist role in the Victorian court system. In the Family Division the court determines protection applications brought by the Department of Health and Human Services in relation to Children where there is an alleged concern for their health, safety or wellbeing.  The Court refers matters to Conciliation Conference where parties are in dispute.  Conciliation Conferences are conducted by a Conference Convenor in a non-adversarial manner and bring together parents and other relevant parties with Child Protection representatives.  Discussions are child and future focused and adhere to the Best Interest Principles of the Act.
