Senior Lawyer

The Judicial Commission of Victoria (Commission) is an independent body to be established on the commencement of the Judicial Commission of Victoria Act 2016. The function of the Commission will be to receive complaints about, and to establish guidelines regarding, the standards of ethical and professional conduct of judicial officers and non-judicial members of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). ?

The Commission commenced on 1 July 2017 and is still in an establishment phase. This 6 month opportunity has arisen to provide additional capacity while consideration is given to the ongoing staffing requirements of the Commission. Job-share and time-time proposals will be considered.?

The Senior Lawyer will be part of a small team responsible for the investigation of complaints and providing high level advice and support to the Director, Judicial Commission of Victoria, the Board of the Judicial Commission and Investigation Panels. The complaint handling responsibilities include intake and assessment, review, investigation and determination of complaints. ?

The Senior Lawyer will liaise with the public, the judiciary, legal counsel and external stakeholders at senior levels. The incumbent will contribute to strategic initiatives, and participate in the education functions of the Judicial Commission.
