Position Summary

The department of Tissue Pathology & Diagnostic Oncology at RPAH is seeing a suitably experienced and skilled Technical Officer to join their Histology Laboratory in a part-time permanent role (21 hours per week). Where possible, the allocation of these hours can be flexible and can be negotiated between the successful applicant and the Laboratory Manager.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all aspects and rosters of the Histology department which will include, but not be limited to Microtomy, Special Staining, Immunofluorescent staining, Frozen Sectioning, Embedding, assisting with gross specimen dissection and general lab duties as directed by the Senipr Hospital scientist in charge of Histology.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time, temporary and casual vacancies.

This position is a permanent position. To be eligibile for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only occur if there is no suitable local applicant.

The Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at RPA hospital performs a wide range of routine Histological and specialised Immunohistochemical testing. The advertised position will be working in a busy histology laboratory in a team with other Technical Assistants, Technical Officers and Scientists with the goal of providing quality specimen slide sections for pathologists in a timely manner. The laboratory works on a rotating roster system where each staff member will experience each aspect of the laboratory including but not limited to microtomy, special staining, immunofluorescent staining, assisting with gross specimen dissection, embedding and filing.
