What you'll be doing

The Research Ethics Officer's primary role is to assist in the management of the business of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC and its Subcommittees), the Animal Care and Ethics Committee and the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and to facilitate communication with researchers regarding the requirements for, and outcomes of their applications. All staff within the Research Office are expected to work flexibly to achieve urgent priorities as required, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of the Kolling Institute.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumer, and those that care for them.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated considerable equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with senior researchers, academic leaders, administrators, and representatives of other government ,non-government agencies, hospitals and universities.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritise a very high volume workload, preferably gained in a research ethics or similar environment.
  • Proven high level of effective communication skills with proven experience in preparation of briefing papers, reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision to achieve results either independently or as part of a team including problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in using office computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Experience with Data Management activities would be preferred.
