RNSH is seeking a suitably qualified Clinical Nurse Consultant to Co-ordinate Bone Marrow Transplantation.

Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) and Community Health Serviceis a 634 bed principal tertiary referral centre. It is close to the CBD and transport facilities, accommodation, recreational and childcare facilities are available.

What you'll be doing
It is the role of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) CNC to case manage patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation at RNSH. The BMT CNC’s primary responsibility is to provide a service to patients, families and members of the health care team that encompasses domains such as the provision of expert knowledge, clinical practice and education in order to achieve best practice outcomes. 

The main focus of this position is to coordinate the care of patients as they progress through their treatment – from searching for a donor, stem cell collection, in and outpatient transplantation, through to discharge and community care. The Clinical Nurse Consultant is an expert practitioner who facilitates sound evidence based clinical practice through research and leadership. 

The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a role model to peer nursing groups within the field of bone marrow transplant services. He/she plays a vital role in health promotion and continuously reviews practice to ensure that excellence is achieved in patient care. The Clinical Nurse Consultant must fulfil the five domains of clinical nurse consultancy as outlined in the Functional/Operational/Clinical position requirements

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:       

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  • A registered nurse who has a minimum of 5 years full time post graduate experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the speciality field. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification relevant to the speciality and hold a Masters (pertaining to speciality field) or is willing to enrol and commence a Masters in the relevant speciality field within two years of the appointment.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake quality improvement and research activities that influence and enhance clinical practice and implement change.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
