About the opportunity

The role of the People and Culture Generalist is to support the People and Culture team to manage day-to-day activities across a wide range of P&C activities.

This involves supporting various people and culture administrative processes, responding to queries, conducting investigations, and providing first-level people and culture advice to employees and managers across MCEC.

In this role, you will also be required to:

  • Triage employee and manager queries and actions directly where reasonable or escalate as needed.
  • Provide compliant, accurate and empathetic advice to employees and managers about the Enterprise bargaining Agreement, MCEC policies and any other people and culture-related matters.
  • Maintain and update People and Culture policies based on current legislation
  • Maintain privacy and integrity-based principles when dealing with employees, in areas such as police records, employment information, industrial relations matters, salary and taxation details.
  • Administer, communicate, and assist with the review of the Employee Benefits program and make recommendations where necessary
  • Ensure the MCET is aware of any legislative or Tax implications/changes that may impact the Employee Benefits program
  • Conduct job evaluations on positions and assist with salary reviews
  • Provide prompt and accurate administrative support to employee life cycle processes, including but not limited to pre-onboarding checks, contract generation, onboarding, orientation, changes to terms of employment or work patterns, changes to pay or position and termination and offboarding of MCET employees.
  • Update and manage People & Culture policies and procedures to ensure they reflect our values and any legislative or compliance requirements.
  • Manage ongoing correspondence with the People and Culture team, including reference checks, including probation, service records, and salary information.
  • Maintain MCEC registers for specific licenses and immigration requirements and report any risk areas.
  • Manage the compliance of employee files including hard copy, and softcopy archiving records.

About you:

Essential

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Cert IV in Human resource management or a related field
  • Prior experience in a proactive people and culture team, with a strong understanding of P&C best practice approaches, legislative compliance, and EBA/Award interpretation.
  • Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality, error-free work.
  • High levels of initiative, curiosity, and display of a positive "can-do" attitude.
  • Ability to appropriately deal with sensitive and highly confidential information with a high level of tact, discretion, and judgement.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a busy and dynamic working environment.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a People and Culture Generalist role with some exposure to managing employee performance and behaviours.
  • Experience using HRIS (i.e., Chris21)
