Head of Capital Works

 

The Opportunity

We have an incredible opportunity for a Head of Capital Works to join our Infrastructure team. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, this role will lead the delivery of our capital works program, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and the master plan. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, you will oversee budget planning, project management, and resource allocation, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in project delivery.

This role requires a highly capable and credentialed project manager with proven experience contributing to master planning and redevelopments; establishment and delivery of internal and external project management frameworks; demonstrable experience working with complex stakeholder management to plan and inform future major capital works and is skilled with developing and leading a team's capability.

Here are some of the game-changing things you'll have the opportunity to be involved in and lead:

  • Develop and execute resource management strategies to ensure successful delivery of the capital works program;
  • Annual review and update of 1-10 year capital plans, in conjunction with relevant stakeholders;
  • Lead the design development for major projects and manage contractor selection and construction activities;
  • Collaborate with departments to develop annual Capital Works delivery strategies and project cost estimates;
  • Manage project governance meetings and ensure adherence to applicable procurement policies and procedures;
  • Develop a resource project management, delivery, and handover strategy against the Capital Works Program ensuring integration into the asset management system;
  • Lead the implementation of the project RACI document for each major project in consultation with the relevant key stakeholders;
  • Preparation of AO project plans for each year for inclusion in budget planning;
  • Lead the continuous improvement of the project management system, governance documentation and project delivery framework;
  • Project manage major capital projects from concept planning to handover, ensuring timely reporting and stakeholder engagement;
  • Presenting the Capital Works Plan to Executives and ensure Executive Leaders and the M&OP Trust are well informed of progress against the plan and any issues that require escalation; and
  • Provide leadership and support to the team, driving operational excellence and achievement of team goals.

What you will bring to the role:

  • 5+ years' experience in client-side representation on major infrastructure projects;
  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, project management, or equivalent field;
  • Experience in a precinct or multi-facility environment and government projects is desirable.
  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities with a focus on multi-project, multi-year programs;
  • Exceptional relationship building, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills;
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment;
  • Technical building knowledge and understanding of architectural plans and contract documentation;
  • Experience in client-side representation on major infrastructure projects and compliance with occupational health and safety standards; and
  • Proficiency in project management and facilities management reporting systems.
