Role Outline

The Chief Pharmacist/Director Pharmaceutical Services is a key source of expert advice on the quality and safety, and use of medicines in hospitals and the community.  The role is responsible for leading the Pharmaceutical Service Unit and the administration of the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act, providing strategic leadership to the development of policies, appropriate regulatory frameworks and guidelines to the safe supply of medicines and poisons. 

The Chief Pharmacist/Director leads engagement with community pharmacists and allied health and represents the State in engagement with national committees including the Advisory Committees on Medicines Scheduling and Chemicals Scheduling.

The role leads a highly specialised Unit involved in regulatory evaluation and review, industry and professional bodies engagement, and awareness and information services to stakeholders, along with compliance and enforcement.

The Chief Pharmacist/Director is a member of the Legal and Regulatory Services Branch Leadership Team, contributing to development of Branch strategies, plans and decisions.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • General registration as a pharmacist. A person who is eligible to be a registered pharmacist (general registration) will be considered subject to obtaining general registration. 
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in pharmacy or public health. 
  • Additional training in administration or management and/or extensive policy development and implementation experience.

This is an ongoing, full time, Band 1, Public Service senior executive (PSSE) role. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $239,483 to $263,586 per annum (SOORT 2023), will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
