What you'll be doing Health Promotion Officer will work as part of the Aboriginal Health Chronic Care Unit (ACCU) to improve their communication to the community and to other clinical services within and outside of ISLHD, with respect to their role and services. The position will focus on increasing the usage of contemporary communication methods across the directorate. The position will work in close collaboration with other communication personnel across the District.

An eligibility list will be created for future temporary and permanent full-time and part-time positions.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have demonstrated ability to effectively and sensitively liaise and communicate with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and agencies.
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in a health promotion, public health, community development discipline or extensive work related experience in health services and communications.
  3. Demonstrated application of health promotion principles and skills in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs and activities (relating to improving the health and well-being of priority populations and building healthier places).
  4. Demonstrated experience in community engagement and/or undertaking community development approaches to reduce health inequities.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the development of newsletters, web-based information and content.
  6. Demonstrated effective organisational skills including managing competing priorities, problem solving and an ability to work as part of a team as well as independently to deliver agreed outcomes.
  7. Demonstrated excellent and written communication skills, decision making and negotiating skills with a strong customer service approach.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW Class C driver’s licence.
