  • TCSA Salaried Employees Award, Clerk Grade 8, annual package $127,784 (includes base salary $113,746 + 11% superannuation)

Taronga Zoo Sydney is looking for an experienced and motivated Manager, Media and Communications to join our Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Division!

An ideal candidate would have experience working in media and communications, a sound knowledge of working within the tourism, government and not-for-profit sectors, a passion for wildlife and conservation and an adventurous spirit.

About the Role…

The role of Manager, Media and Communications at Taronga Zoo, is to develop and manage the execution of the media, communications and content strategy and initiatives that drive:

  • Visitation and revenue to Taronga's two Zoos and the Taronga Foundation
  • Positive perception of, and greater awareness of the Taronga Conservation Society Australia
  • Brand awareness and advocacy for Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Key Accountabilities…

  • Develop, plan and implement the media, communications and content strategy and budget for Taronga Conservation Society Australia that deliver's on Taronga's overarching strategic plan and vision.
  • Lead and manage the media and communications team to deliver a strategic media, social media and content activity that communicates Taronga's purpose, grows revenue, strengthens Taronga's reputation and services the communications needs of the organisation.
  • Liaise with and influence affiliated NSW and Federal Government agencies, provide specialist policy advice to TCSA Managers and maintain excellent relationships with TCSA internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Manage a team to provide media, social media, communication and content expertise and advice across all aspects of the organisation's operations, including the Foundation, Commercial, Conservation Science, Education and Capital Works, providing strategic direction and input as appropriate.
  • Ensure the media and communications team utilise all media channels (including where appropriate paid, owned and earned), taking full accountability for developing and expanding the team's knowledge, capability and impact in this area.
  • Provide strategic communication advice and implement strategies to improve and strengthen Taronga's reputation and brand value, including responding to and solving emerging and immediate issues through timely crisis support across the organisation.

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in a similar capacity.
  • Previous experience and achievement as a Manager within a media and communications environment.
  • Recent experience using strategic media and communications activity, demonstrated business or organisational outcomes.
  • Previous experience working with Government stakeholders
  • Ability to lead a diverse and complex team under high pressure situations.
  • Obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.
