Where you'll be working

The NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service (NSW OTDS) is the state-wide NSW Health agency responsible to save and improve the lives of more Australians through optimising every potential organ and tissue donation for transplantation. Our objectives are to:
  • Optimise organ and tissue donation opportunities for transplantation
  • Provide specialist support for families involved in the donation process
  • Increase consent through registration (on the Australian Organ Donor Registry) and family discussion
  • Enhance systems to support donation and transplantation.

The NSW OTDS is hosted by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

What you'll be doing

Provide strong leadership and senior management of multiple sites and/or services whilst overseeing the operation of the BIENCO, bioengineered cornea research consortium, to ensure delivery of agreed milestones.
  
BIENCO is a health technology startup founded by a team of experienced healthcare professionals, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. Its vision is to reduce corneal blindness on a global scale with the mission to become the world’s first manufacturer of bioengineered corneas for the treatment of corneal disease. The BIENCO research consortium will be transitioned into a fully-fledged bioengineering and manufacturing company delivering innovative solutions for eye diseases worldwide by 2025 to:
  • accelerate access to surgical services for people awaiting a corneal transplantation.
  • improve the lives of those with corneal blindness, by restoring their vision and allowing them to live their best possible life.
  • reduce the burden on the healthcare system and end-of-life organ donation services.
  • strengthen Australia’s bioengineering and biomedical technology sectors.
This position is a key management position for the BIENCO research group and in conjunction with the Manufacturing Coordination and Manufacturing Quality Team Leaders, responsible for providing expert advice and specialist support to the BIENCO governance functions, as well as linking strategy with research operations, communications, and support to the BIENCO Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Selection Criteria

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Project / Program Management or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.
  2. Proven experience in senior leadership and management in a large and complex organisation
  3. Demonstrated experience of implementing change to meet strategic outcomes
  4. Demonstrated ability in management of human resources/financial/administrative/and/or other services
  5. Excellent strategic planning and policy development skills, including the ability to make complex judgements and take initiative within the delegated area
  6. Excellent negotiation, decision making and influencing skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, through all organisational levels.
  7. Highly developed and effective written and oral communication skills
  8. Current drivers licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
