An exciting opportunity exists to conduct population health research in a statewide government role - based at North Sydney. You will be responsible for research and evaluation conducted on significant state-wide programs including developing protocols, ethics, recruitment, implementation and publication; overseeing a grant funding program and providing research advice.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
Where you'll be working
You will be working at the Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention and Harm Minimisation (AOD PHM) Unit, part of the Centre for Population Health at the NSW Ministry of Health in North Sydney.
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of this role is to lead the research and evaluation of alcohol and other drugs population health programs and manage the AOD Innovation and Evaluation Grants Program.
Selection Criteria
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, social sciences or similar; or demonstrated equivalent relevant research experience.
2. Excellent experience and sound skills in research and evaluation and the application of evidence based practice.
3. Demonstrated experience in the management of, or application for, funding grants.
4. Excellent understanding of the policy process and strategic planning and policy development skills, or proven ability to quickly gain this understanding.
5. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programs or research on a large scale or state-wide level.
6. Sound understanding of concepts and issues in alcohol and other drugs, early intervention and population based prevention approaches.
7. Demonstrated high level negotiation, verbal and written communication skills for the diversity of audiences and the ability to problem solve and manage complex issues within tight deadlines.
8. Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment including demonstrated capacity to lead and coach.
