What you'll be doing
The job holder will play the principal and lead role in the management and delivery of psychological care services for infants, children, young people and families within the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) Cardiac Service.  This will include the development and implementation of clinical protocols for the provision of psychological assessment, care, treatment and support to infants, children and young people with heart disease, and their families; the development of internal and external networks for psychological care of cardiac patients in NSW and their families; development and provision of psycho-education for health professionals; collaboration within a high-performing multidisciplinary team of health professionals; and substantial contribution to a productive psychological research program relevant to clinical activities. The job holder will also be responsible for the majority of administrative duties required to sustain and maintain the clinical psychology service and research program.

  1. Qualifications as a Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist, and registration in NSW as a Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist or fulfilment of all criteria for registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. High level skills and experience in the provision of psychological services, with the capacity and openness to work in a range of therapeutic modalities, particularly psychodynamic psychotherapy.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with psychological issues associated with medical illness during infancy and childhood, trauma, grief and bereavement, and a strong understanding of psychological dynamics within families, particularly during the perinatal period and throughout parenthood.
  3. Demonstrated experience and success in carrying out high quality psychological research, including publication of research results in peer-review journals, and a track record in securing research funding.
  4. Demonstrated skills and initiative in the development and implementation of patient services and resources, as well as psycho-educational programs and resources for health professionals.
  5. Strong planning and time management skills, with good networked relationships relevant to the service needs and administrative experience in running teams.
  6. Able to take a leadership role within the team, including demonstrated skills in team and research administration.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Capable of both independent initiations and working in a high-performing multidisciplinary team lead by a medical consultant.
