ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary purpose of this role is to provide NSW Ambulance staff with support to reduce the risk and occurrence of physical injuries across the organisation.

The position is responsible for the development and implementation of injury prevention programs, workshops, educational resources and expert advice for NSW Ambulance staff at all levels and locations. Please refer to the Role Description and Position Conditions and General Info for further information.

The position is located at NSW Ambulance Zone Office in Wollongong. Some travel to NSW Ambulance state headquarters in Sydney Olympic Park is required. 

Please note: This is a temporary full-time position for a period of twelve (12) months with possible extension.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will require the following experience and attributes:

  • The position holder is required to have an understanding of the challenges and risks faced by paramedics working in the emergency service environment. You must have highly developed interpersonal skills to be able to coach and communicate effectively with staff empowering them to take improve their own health and wellbeing. You will be required to liaise with key stakeholders on all aspects of health and safety including making recommendations in relation to training needs and operational practices.
  • You will have a broad knowledge and understanding of best practice support for shift workers including sleep, exercise, nutrition, chronic pain and mental health. 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health e.g. physiotherapy, exercise physiology. Eligible for accreditation with relevant health field.
  • Experience in delivering educational sessions in relation to health and fitness for different size groups and knowledge base.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound advice with regard to correct manual handling techniques, exercise techniques and ergonomic assessments.
  • Knowledge of early intervention injury management principles.
  • Experience in undertaking research when required to evaluate effectiveness of injury prevention interventions.
  • High level computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft applications and internet.
  • High level of written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to liaise, coach and counsel with a diverse range of people.
