The position of Rail Safety Officer forms a part of the Rail Safety Branch within Transport Safety Victoria.

The position of Rail Safety Officer reports to the Manager, Regulatory Operations. This position is responsible for monitoring the compliance of rail operators with designated rail safety legislation, assessing accreditation applications and conducting targeted compliance activities. The position is responsible for providing advice and maintaining effective communication and relationships with senior management and accredited and non-accredited rail operators and industry stakeholders regarding rail safety, accreditation and compliance matters.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Understanding of the principles of integrated safety management systems, risk management, auditing and their application to railway operations and the Rail Safety National & Local Law is desirable.
  • Experience and expertise in planning and conducting complex safety audits and compliance inspections ensuring adherence to strict regulatory requirements within a hazardous environment.
  • Experience in safety operations and compliance in the rail industry.
