The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Program Leader, Entomology to be part of the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) within PIRSA. The role reports to the Research Director, Crop Sciences.

The Program Leader, Entomology is responsible for the program’s science direction and excellence to enhance SARDI’s national reputation as a key research provider for crop protection and biosecurity. The Program Leader, Entomology is responsible for fostering and enhancing research and development outcomes which will contribute to SARDI’s role of leading and conducting innovative research on insect pest management and plant biosecurity for the benefit of South Australia.

The Program Leader, Entomology is responsible for leading the Entomology science program at SARDI which spans research on plant biosecurity (including fruit fly), insect diagnostics and integrated pest management for grains and horticultural industries. In addition the Program Leader will be responsible for the management of SARDI Entomology program science and technical staff.

The Program Leader, Entomology will be the leading spokesperson on SARDI’s entomology research, liaise with key industry and state government stakeholders. The successful applicant must have a strong research profile in applied entomology research. The incumbent provides leadership and mentoring to staff and students within the Entomology Program.

Special Conditions

  • A current Class C drivers licence is essential.
  • Interstate and intrastate travel and some out of hours work, weekend and public holidays travel will be required.
  • PhD in Entomology or related field, and extensive research experience is highly regarded.
