South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

Duties: This is a contract role with the South East Variety Agronomy team as a Senior Agricultural Officer. The South East New Variety Agronomy group works across a number of research projects aiming to improve crop productivity, profitability and sustainability across the South East.

The Senior Agricultural Officer is responsible for providing skilled technical assistance to conduct research across a number of research projects that have a focus of evaluating the performance of crop varieties and improving agronomic practices. Through this research, and the promotion of research outcomes to the industry, the Senior Agricultural Officer will contribute to improvements in the productivity and sustainability of farming systems on South East. Involves field work and exposure to dust and pollen.

Special Conditions: This role is located at Struan Research Centre, Naracoorte, however research work is conducted on-farms from Lameroo to Millicent. Interstate and intrastate travel and some out of hours work, weekend and public holidays travel will be required.  A current Class C driver's licence is essential. A ‘Heavy vehicle’ licence is highly desirable.  Use of common agriculture chemicals is required and a Chemcert chemical handler’s certificate or a willingness to obtain one is essential.  A Senior First Aid Certificate will be required.
