Primary Industries and Regions SA, as a key economic development agency of the South Australian Government, works across a diverse range of industry sectors including agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and aquaculture and regional development. We involve and engage with others to ensure we make good decisions, have clear policies, plan and implement effective programs, drive relevant projects, promote efficient resource use and broker shared responsibility. In this way we enable the State’s primary industry sectors and regions to remain competitive, productive and sustainable.

South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

Research Services Officer (Molluscan Fisheries) supports the research outcomes of that program, including the successful and timely delivery of research, thereby contributing to the professionalism and competitive position of the organisation as a research provider by enhancing the expertise within the Fisheries Program. Duties include maintenance of the field assets (e.g. vehicles, vessels, diving and field gear), management of WHS for the Molluscan Fisheries group in Port Lincoln, and field-based and laboratory-based research on a range of species. The incumbent will be required to lead and undertake fieldwork, both on commercial fishing vessels and SARDI vessels. Data entry and management are integral to the role.

Special Conditions: Other requirements specific to the role includes possession of a current driver’s licence and a willingness to drive.  Coxswains/Master 5/MED and commercial diving certifications are highly desirable.  Work outside normal working hours and on weekends will be required.  Regular intrastate and occasional interstate travel will be required, including absence overnight and frequent field trips on a variety of research and commercial vessels.
