South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

The Research Chief Livestock & Farming Systems is responsible for the development and implementation of policies, regulatory frameworks and program initiatives to promote economic development in the primary industries sector in South Australia. Prime responsibilities for the Research Chief Livestock & Farming Systems include the initiation, drive and coordination of collaborative relationships and efforts across the Portfolio, State, Local and Federal Governments. To be successful in this role the Research Chief Livestock & Farming Systems requires strong knowledge of the economy, industry development and trade, and an excellent current understanding of, and senior level experience with, legislation and government practice.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

A higher degree (PhD or equivalent) in Science, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Reproductive Biology, Quantitative Genetics or related discipline relevant to the livestock sector is essential.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 60 months. A current driver's licence and a willingness to drive is required. You may be required to work elsewhere within South Australia. Significant intrastate and interstate (and possibly overseas) travel will be necessary. A flexible approach to working hours is necessary; out of hours work is a requirement due to the nature of the role.
