About the Role

The Financial Governance, Compliance and Taxation Team works to establish effective internal control systems for financial management within CFA, covering financial, operational and compliance controls.

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Governance, Compliance and Taxation, the Manager Financial Policy and Governance will lead efforts to establish robust internal controls across CFA.

This leadership opportunity will see you support the development and implementation of financial management training strategies and provide expertise in developing effective financial governance strategies for CFA. Additionally, you will review outstanding control and reporting issues, analyse them to identify recurring themes and root causes and prepare dashboards and reports to communicate the current state of internal controls to the CFO, CFA Executive, Board, and Board Committees.

This role will involve engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to influence and educate them on process improvements and internal controls. The key responsibilities of the role are outlined on the position description attached.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Full Membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ)/Certified Practising Accountant Australia (CPA)/Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation or national or international equivalent.
  • Good understanding of audit and assurance either gained by formal qualification or experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in establishing and monitoring internal controls and policies and procedures in a large complex organisation.
  • Ability to engender trust and confidence across CFA based upon the ability to understand business processes, evaluate the system of internal controls and support the integrity of financial and regulatory reporting on target, on time, and on budget.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills in the context of a government organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across multiple business and technology functions, relationship building and consensus building.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential to effectively drive change across a culturally diverse workforce in the Public Sector.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to successfully initiate, manage and implement change in a business unit.
  • Ability to work accurately in high pressure situations under tight timeframes with the ability to quickly identify and distil key issues.
