Deputy Managing Lawyer 

  • Full time, maximum term contract available (12 months)
  • Salary commensurate with experience; range: $85,631 - $107,036 plus superannuation

About the role: 
We are currently seeking an experienced senior lawyer with a background in Criminal, Family or Civil Law. You will assist the Managing Lawyer in the day to day operational management of the Central Highlands regional office. 

You will support the Managing Lawyer in leading a professional legal team with management and mentoring of less experienced lawyers and administrative staff. You will act as a senior advocate by undertaking complex legal work, providing technical specialist advice and conduct high level casework in criminal, family or civil law matters.

About you:
You will have strong people management skills and have an interest in mentoring less experienced lawyers, building team morale and collaborating with key stakeholders. You will have demonstrated capacity to work as a senior advocate and caseworker in complex matters and you are a strategic thinker with the ability to identify issues and develop policies whilst contributing to the broader work of Victoria Legal Aid within a regional setting. Experience in other practice areas including child protection, infringements and the Mental Health Tribunal will be highly regarded.
