Practice and Briefing Manager, Chambers

About the role:
This role manages coordinated briefing practices and policy in VLA Chambers and is responsible for the core Chambers function of promoting the efficient and effective use of in-house and external counsel. The Practice and Briefing Manager will also be responsible for key Chambers initiatives including the Trial Counsel Development Program and training and staff development projects. In addition, the Practice and Briefing Manager leads the Briefing Manager and team of clerks and assists in the management of the group of 23 Advocates. 

About you:
You will be an influential leader with extensive knowledge and experience of the Victorian justice system, legal issues and law reform. You will have demonstrated experience in operations management preferably gained within the public legal sector. You will have demonstrated management experience with sound knowledge of finance processes. You will be results driven with proven ability to deliver results in complex operational and strategic settings. You will have good knowledge of private advocates, including their experience, strengths and capabilities. You will rely on your excellent communication skills to effectively manage and resolve conflict, and have solid knowledge of, and experience in dealing with major trials (experience dealing with circuits will be highly regarded).

Crucial to your success in this role will be your highly developed stakeholder management skills and your ability to build mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders to influence and generate engagement towards common outcomes and systemic benefits that improve VLA's staff and client experience.
