Application Analyst - Policing Systems, Business and Technology Services

The Application Analyst reviews and analyses the organisations' business intentions, services, processes and information needs to identify changes that lead to business improvements.
 
The Application Analyst is responsible for working with application developers and business representatives undertaking business analysis and requirements gathering activities to ensure project and business operations deliverables meet client requirements. Requirements may involve changes to business processes, provision of a new business solution or enhancements to existing systems and infrastructure.
 
Key accountabilities
  • Analyse existing systems, applications and functions to ensure strategic ICT objectives are met.
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative research to identify trends and assist with determining business priorities.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with users, technical staff and stakeholders to determine and resolve issues and assist clients with Business Analysis and Testing requirements.
  • Provide accurate advice about technical issues and solutions to assist with specifying business requirements for new or existing solutions.
  • Develop and maintain project plans by assisting with the planning and sizing of business analysis activities.
  • Develop automated and manual test case scripts, documentation, plans and schedules as they relate to all testing scenarios within the software development life cycle.
  • Implement IT solutions that comply with the NSW Police information technology policies, procedures, standards and security practices by maintaining awareness of and applying requirements and architecture standards and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Implement ongoing support and maintenance process for IT solutions by troubleshooting, detecting and correcting faults, undertaking development tasks as well as undertaking technical and functional impact analysis.

  • Ensures applications solutions comply with the NSW Police information technology policies, procedures, standards and security practices.
  • Keep abreast of the changing solution environment in order to provide sound information and advice
  • Timely resolution of issues and problems along with continually identifying ways to provide more responsive solutions to address the needs of the business.

Essential requirements – applicants must:
  • Hold Tertiary qualifications in a relevant Information Technology discipline or demonstrated experience in solutions development.
  • Have the ability to maintain and provide 24 hour/7 days per week support for applications ensuring reliability and high availability.
  • Possess strong analytical skills including the ability to analyse and interpret information, prepare written reports, deal with challenges creatively and achieve business focused solutions.
  • Have proven experience as a business & test analyst working on IT applications/systems in a large and complex service industry organisation.
  • Have experience with testing tools and extensive experience with all phases of testing such as unit testing, system and functional testing and integration testing.
