South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has announced he will personally campaign in the electorates of Federal MP’s who ‘don’t put their State first’ and support the Federal Government’s amended Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

Mr Weatherill made the announcement after the Federal Government said it had finalised the plan to see 3,200 gigalitres of water returned to environmental flows.

The Premier went to the Federal Liberal MP Christopher Pyne’s electorate of Sturt to announce he will write to every South Australian MP, urging them to support the ammendments.

“We have had a significant win with Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s announcement that the Federal Government will return 3200 gigalitres of water to the Murray.

“Through our Fight for the Murray campaign we’ve won more water for the river and $265 million for our river communities

“If all South Australian Federal MPs vote as a bloc, this will become law.

“But if South Australian Liberal MPs like Christopher Pyne combine with their upstream colleagues to block the plan, this historic opportunity will be lost.
