The Western Australian Government has announced the next round of funding for local communities under the state's Royalties for Regions Grants Scheme (RGS).

State Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls announced that $7.98 million will be allocated in the latest round of the RGS and would provide communities in regional areas with improved economic and community infrastructure and services.

“The primary objective of the scheme is to develop infrastructure and services to regional areas through funding projects that will assist in attracting investment and increasing employment opportunities,” Mr Grylls said.

WA’s nine regional development commissions administer the scheme, including assessing applications and determining grants.

The announcement of the new round of funding comes as Mr Grylls called for a review into the scheme, urging increased transparency to ensure that funding was being allocated efficiently.
