The Victorian Government has announced it has approved a key precinct structure plan for the Geelong area, which it claims will result in a $2 billion investment in the local building and housing area.

“This is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia and will be instrumental in enhancing the liveability of the Geelong area by providing affordable homes for local families,” State Planning Minister Matthew Guy said.

Located on the southern edge of Geelong, Armstrong Creek West will accommodate 5,800 new homes with significant areas of open space including parkland, running and cycling tracks and community facilities.

The Armstrong Creek Urban Growth Area will ultimately accommodate up to 60,000 people and provide approximately 22,000 jobs in the largest contiguous growth area in Victoria.

The planning scheme amendment was progressed as a ministerial amendment, at Greater Geelong City Council’s request.
