The Tasmanian Government has announced it will push the current retail energy price determination will be rolled forward to next year to ensure power price rises are controlled.

 

Premier Lara Giddings said the move would ensure that prices will not rise by more than the headline inflation rate in 2013.

 

"After three consecutive increases of over 10 per cent, this will come as a relief for all Tasmanians,” Ms Giddings said.

 

"While it is ultimately the Regulator who will determine the price increase that is allowed, it is expected to be no more than CPI.”

 

Ms Giddings also announced that energy concessions would be indexed in a bid to further assist disadvantaged households pay their bills.

 

"Further, the Government is seeking to ensure that emergency relief funding continues to be made available from 1 January 2014 when FRC has commenced,” Ms Giddings said.
