NSW Planning Minister Brad Hazzard has announced an 18-month review of  the state’s planning laws.

"This is the first comprehensive planning review in 31 years and we are ready for fresh ideas and consultation which will kick-start an era of integrity and transparency," he said.

The review will be jointly chaired by former Labor minister Ron Dyer and former Liberal environment minister Tim Moore, who is currently a Land and Environment Court commissioner. Mr Moore will take leave from the court during the review.

The review will start with a listening and scoping stage (four months), the preparation of a green paper outlining options for change (six months) and a white paper setting out a new framework and draft legislation (eight months).
