The Queensland State Government is replacing its Hospital and Health Services accounting software with new system it says will put Queensland in line with National Health Reform guidelines.

The multi-million dollar contracts will be assessed by existing ICT providers, starting tomorrow in Brisbane. The State Government has commissioned the overhaul to better track, record and report business activity, leading to greater transparency and accountability. The new software is also being designed with IT industry consultation.

“Our existing IT systems come from a previous era, in which direct comparison between local services was difficult and cumbersome,” State Health Minister Laurence Springborg said, “these new programmes will lead our corporate services capability into the future while delivering the recommendations of the Government’s Blueprint for Better Healthcare in Queensland and the Commission of Audit.”

The changes should fulfil the recommendations of the Government’s Blueprint for Better Health Care.
