Perth is Australia’s most expensive city to live in and 10th worldwide, according to a new report.

Data was collated by a survey site from pricing information on consumer goods, groceries, restaurants, transportation and utilities. Perth is also the most expensive city in the southern hemisphere, the remainder of the top ten countdown is taken up by cities in Switzerland and Norway.

The Numbeo index, which is updated weekly, is based on a worldwide comparison of prices relative to those in New York City. Perth rated 121.99, meaning on their analysis the city is 21.99 per cent more expensive than New York.

Anyone wishing to experience the most expensive city in the world should check out Trondheim in Norway. The Viking Age settlement is more than 50 per cent more expensive to live in than New York.

As if encouraged by the dubious accolade, authorities in WA have announced the price of fuel is set to rise 16 cents per litre today to a five-year high of $1.56 per litre.
