The Northern Territory Treasurer, Delia Lawrie, has welcomes the Federal Budget, saying Federal spending will build a ‘strong national economy with initiatives to build the workforce needed to support resource jurisdictions like the Territory’

“The Commonwealth’s $558 million plan to provide 130,000 extra training places in key industries like mining complements the Territory Government’s Jobs NT plan to grow our own workforce. Providing more training places will help Territory businesses to grow and take advantage of our economic opportunities.” Ms Lawrie said.

Ms Lawrie has also welcomed a range of education initiatives to be rolled out in the NT, including;

  • $5.1 million to support quality teachers;
  • $2.2 million boost for programs for disabled students and support for teachers;
  • $5.2 million for a boost to literacy and numeracy programs; and
  • $17.5 million for low socio-economic schools.
