Leaked “cabinet-in-confidence” reportedly show the NSW Government is considering additional road tolls to pay for the final stage of its WestConnex motorway.

The $1.8 billion Sydney Gateway is expected to be completed in 2023.

While around $1.2 billion of its cost is budgeted through WestConnex funding, the remaining $600 million in road-building money is unsourced.

Reports this week claim papers uncovered in the ‘Cabinet Files’ leak advise the NSW Cabinet to look at new fees, levies on freight activities in the area, or additional tolls on airport-bound vehicle trips through the Gateway.

The documents also advise against a construction option that would have prevented property developers from building proposed hotels.
