Engineer, Dave Stewart, has been appointed Head of Projects Queensland, the standalone unit tasked with fostering private sector investment for major infrastructure delivery and providing commercial advice from within the Treasury department.

Mr Stewart, a former Director-General of Transport and Main Roads,  joined Projects Queensland as the Interim Head when the Newman Government created the unit in July last year.

Announcing the appointment Treasurer Tim Nicholls said that under Mr Stewart’s leadership, Projects Queensland had progressed the business case for the second Toowoomba Range Crossing, the Government Wireless Network project and successfully delivered the 1 William Street development.

“Mr Stewart has been recognised by Engineers Australia as one of the country’s most influential engineers and was awarded a fellowship by the Transport and Logistics Institute.

“As the permanent Head of Projects Queensland, he will continue to lead a team focused on enhancing the Queensland Government’s value-for-money infrastructure delivery capability.”

Mr Nicholls said the Projects Queensland team would continue to ensure major infrastructure projects were built on time and to budget.

“They are actively engaging with the private sector to foster investment partnerships that deliver the best outcomes for the State,” he said.

Mr Nicholls said Projects Queensland would continue to develop and deliver finance solutions in partnership with Government-owned corporations for infrastructure projects.

“The raft of initiatives over the coming year presents a huge task for the unit, but Projects Queensland has the skills and expertise to get the job done.”
