The NSW and SA mining industries will  join forces to boost exploration, infrastructure and economic development through a new agreement signed by the states.

NSW Resources Minister Chris Hartcher said areas to benefit include far-western NSW, which contains potential for iron, basemetals, mineral sands and  uranium deposits.

Mr Hartcher and South Australian Mineral Resources Minister Tom Koutsantonis this week signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will encourage co-operation between agencies in respect to infrastructure, best practice policies and planning.

“And as global leaders in geo-scientific information acquisition and delivery, the MOU will help attract resources-related investment across both states," Mr Hartcher said.

Mr Koutsantonis said the states did not want their border to become an impediment to developing assets.

“This MOU aims to eliminate cross-border obstacles so that we can ensure both states reach the full potential offered by our mineral endowment, especially in the Braemar Province," Mr Koutsantonis said.

The MOU was announced at the AusIMM International Uranium Conference in Darwin.
