LinkWater CEO Peter McManamon has been named Queensland Public Sector Professional of the Year at the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) Queensland Awards.

The award recognises the public sector professional who has made the most significant difference to the public sector through demonstrating best practice and fostering other public sector professionals.

Peter’s leadership during the January Floods and his effectiveness in leading best practice across LinkWater’s business saw him take the honour.

In accepting the award Peter said:

“I’ve spent more than 30 years working in the water industry throughout Australia and overseas and I’m excited to be at the helm of LinkWater in these changing and challenging times. I really feel that this award is an acknowledgement of the great work done by the LinkWater team on a daily basis.”

He added that while LinkWater has many achievements the organisation really came of age in 2011.

“We’re generally known as the quiet achievers of the water industry, yet in January this year we demonstrated that we provide an essential service for the region – moving drinking water around the region to areas of need and ensuring that it reaches its destination at the required quality – even during a natural disaster.”

Nominations for the award were drawn from Local, State and Federal Government and from all businesses within the public sphere.

“This award is also an acknowledgement of the great work being done in Queensland’s water industry.  I’m honoured to be able to represent the industry in the broader public sector,” Peter said.

Almost 300 people attended the event which also marked the 60th Anniversary of IPAA in Queensland.
