The Western Australian Government has announced that the new Department of Finance will be headed by Anne Nolan and will concentrate on revenue; management of government building projects; works and administration; and the Office of Shared Services when it splits from Treasury on July 1, 2011.

The department will also play a critical role in analysing the performance and capital expenditure budgets of Government Trading Enterprises (GTE).

Premier Colin Barnett said Ms Nolan, who is currently director general of the Department of State Development, is one of the State’s leading public servants and brought strong economic credentials to the role.

“Ms Nolan’s extensive understanding of the resource and infrastructure needs of the State will also be important in relation to oversight of GTE capital programs given the enormous demand for government expenditure,” Mr Barnett said.

“Her experience holds her in good stead for the complex financial issues likely to be facing the State in the next few years and I congratulate her on this new role.”

Tim Marney will continue in his existing role as under treasurer in the Department of Treasury.

The Public Sector Commissioner will conduct an expression of interest process to fill the role of Department of State Development director general on an acting basis.
