Victorian State Health Minister David Davis has announced that the board of Ambulance Victoria has been stepped down after the minister moved to reshuffle the service.

Mr Davis sacked four members of the nine-member board, including former Labor MP John McQuilten. Mr Davis installed seven new members to replace the four, including a Liberal Party ally, Charles GIllies.

Three members of the board have not had their contracts continued after they expired at the end of June.

Mr Davis cited underperformance by the board as a reason for the shuffle, saying that there has been a long-term slide in performance quality.
