Top End Health Service (TEHS) is the hospital and health service network covering the northern regions of the Northern Territory. It includes the Royal Darwin, Katherine and Gove Hospitals, the new 116 bed Palmerston Hospital due for completion in 2018, remote primary healthcare incorporating remote health clinics and outreach services. Aboriginal healthcare is a core activity with the Territory committed to leading the nation in meeting 'Close the gap' targets.

The Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery is a member of the strategic executive responsible for managing TEHS business operations and working closely with the TEHS Board, whilst at the same time providing strategic and professional leadership to a flexible, multicultural nursing and midwifery workforce.

The context of low population density and a high population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders provide a unique healthcare environment along with tropical health and urban care. It requires Nursing and Midwifery leadership that is passionate and capable of building and inspiring: workforce flexibility, resilience and responsiveness; models of care that are accessible, innovative, effective and reflect the unique local conditions; cultural responsiveness; bringing research to practice to develop evidence of outcomes; education in the context of professional diversity and isolation; greater collaboration and integration; robust systems of governance.
